Finally in college : The most common makeup mistakes

11/11/12

Hello, it has been a long time I haven't posted any articles, but since I entered college this Semptember, I don't have much time to come here. I have always heard that the best time in your life is the one you spend during your college years. Actually, for the time being I don't think so. My life has been so boring ever since I left high school. It's really hard to make friends in auditorium of 300 students who always stick with the same people or who don't seem to want to talk to anybody. Moreover, days are really long!  I always end up nodding off.
Anyway. When I was in high school, very few girls were wearing makeup, but now, in college, very few girls come out bare faced. I have noticed that girls who wear makeup usually make the same mistakes.

The first 2 words I'm thinking of to resume them would be : too much & unnatural.

1. Mismatching
Tanned skin is something most girls want to have here in Belgium.
I don't know whether it's the weather that doesn't allow us to achieve that look or if we just don't tan easily, but many girls buy dark foundation that doesn't suit their skin tone just to look more tanned.
They end up with the white neck-dark orangy face look that is just too ridiculous.
Using a different shade than your real skin tone is the first mistake you should avoid. Having fair skin doesn't mean you look like a ghost. Well, even if people tell you this, don't pay attention to them, many people love porcelain skin :). Isn't it better to have fair skin than looking like a clown? Moreover, bronzer can make miracles to bring back some color to your face, but always pay attention while using it, putting too much bronzer would give the same result!

2. Cakey foundation
Applying too much foundation or concealer lead your face to get cakey most of the time. Even if you have imperfections you want to hide, always begin by applying a thin layer of foundation and wait until it dries completly before reapplying some product. Of course, it's no use doing this if you still end up wearing 4 layers of foundation.
Trying to hide your imperfections with too much product will only look awful. Everybody has imperfections, it's better to let them be rather than ending up with the plaster mask feeling. You won't feel confident this way.
Of course, some foundation can get cakey more easily than others, then always pay attention to what you're buying.
Another tip : Using a setting powder can help to set your makeup and so avoid it to cake, but don't pat the powder on your face with the puff usually sold with the powder. Use a powder brush instead to avoid getting too much product, and again lead your makeup to cake.

3. Over-tweezing
Some people think tweezing their eyebrows as thin and arched as possible will make them look great and then they end up with almost inexistent and very unatural eyebrows.
The best and easiest way to achieve nice and clean eyebrows is to keep your natural eyebrows shape! Only pluck messy hair that grow around your eyebrows to define it and keep it clean.
Do not try to shape your eyebrows like a friend who looks beautiful or anything, the best beauty tip is to use your own attributes!

If you're a beginner and make a mistake while shaping one of your eyebrow, don't try to make the same with the other one to make them look even! You could end up doing another mistake, and re-tweezing again and again. At the end, you will just end up with a no-eyebrow look! Moreover if you over-tweeze, some hair might never grow back, then beware, beware!
Just wait until the hair grow back and try defining your eyebrow the way you want again by plucking the hair one by one. It can take a quite a long time to grow back, but be patient, it's your best option. I actually haven't shaped my eyebrows for a very long time now, because I had the bad habit to pluck too much, but I think full brows make you look better and younger, that's why I'm now waiting for my brows to grow back until I'm satisfied.
By the way, if your mistake is big like a house and you want to hide it, just use some eyebrow powder or pencil to fill in and that's it.
(Pay attention while using an eyebrow produts, and be sure to always brush your eyebrows after application to avoid your eyebrows looking harsh.)

I hope this post helped some of you! Take care of your health and your skin in this cold weather. See you!
